London Clinic Cancer Centre
The London Clinic Cancer Centre opened in 2010 in the famous Harley Street medical area of central London. It combines sophisticated screening techniques, chemotherapy, stem cell transplants and other specialist haematology and oncology services with the latest radio treatment technologies.
The 80 million pound London Clinic Cancer Centre is a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility comprised of eight floors, dedicated exclusively to cancer care, diagnosis and treatment.  Everything is designed to make the patient’s stay as comfortable and stress-free as it can be and a central light-well enables natural daylight to reach every level.
These include CyberKnife®, three linear acelerators (LINACs), the Varian Clinac® iX and Trilogy® System with RapidArc™.
The Centre is linked by foot tunnel to the adjacent London Clinic.  This prestigious institution has just celebrated 75 years of service to UK and international patients and it offers a full range of hospital, consultancy and diagnostic service.
Relaxation areas have been built around this light soource, even in the main gallery, three floors below ground and there is a live camera feed, relaying the beautiful, natural surroundings of nearby Regent's Park.
CyberKnife forms the centrepiece of the London Clinic Cancer Centre, under the direction of Dr Cristopher M Nutting, Clinical Advisor Radiotherapy and also Clinical Director, Head and Neck Unit at the Royal Marsden Hospital, the UK's largest specialist cancer hospital.
Radiosurgery and radiotherapy
Part of The London Clinic
CyberKnife is not suitable for all tumours, for instance in breast cancer or where tumours are too large, diffuse or numerous for CyberKnife's fine radiosurgical beams.  In these case Trilogy may be used as this provides for more rapid and accurate treatments over conventional Linac systems, meaning less radiation is received by healthy tissue surrounding the target area.
The London Clinic Cancer Centre typically treats CyberKnife patients in five daily 'fractions' on an out-patient basis.  Cases are assessed individually and a detailed treatment plan is drawn up in each case.
Diagnostic services
Leading consultants and experienced nursing and support staff
The London Clinic has recruited the most pioneering clinicians, given them the best equipment available and teamed them with the most highly skilled nurses and support staff.  These include specially trained oncology pharmacists and a dedicated onclogy pharmacy, specialist dieticians and complementary therapists.
A Macmillan Cancer Information Nurse Specialist is available for you or your family to find out more about cancer and its treatment.
Accommodationa t London Clinic Cancer Centre
Patient rooms are ergonomic and hygienic and all have floor to ceiling windows.  The InTouch system allows you to adjust temperature, lighting, entertainment and even the angle of the bed.
MRI and CT scanning services are provided at The London Clinic next door, where two new 1.5 Tesla MRI scanners have been installed.  The Siemens Magnetom Avanto is much quieter than most MRI scanners and uses a lighter 'body matrix' coil, making scans more comfortable for oncology and cardiac patients.

For claustrophobic patients most scans can be performed 'feet first'.  The Siemens Magnetom Espree is a wide bore scanner, giving greater  width and headroom and your head remains clear of the tunnel for many scans

Accommodation and facilities
They are decorated in relaxing therapeutic colours and timber veneers with curved edges, whilst metalwork is coated with an anti-bacterial finish.  There is triple glazing, with blinds between the glass and ledges are kept to a minimum. The water taps have a sensor flow, so there is no need to touch them.
Surgery
The London Clinic uses the da Vinci® Surgical System, the latest robotic-assisted surgery technique, which is used to treat prostate cancer by removing the prostate through keyhole surgery.
Located in a self-contained wing of the hospital, The London Clinic's dedicated plastic and aesthetic surgery unit has 12 ensuite single rooms. Specialist surgical procedures undertaken include mastectomy for breast cancer (single or bilateral), prophylactic mastectomy and breast reconstruction after mastectomy, as well as many other general plastics and aesthetic procedures.
The sisters and charge nurses in the unit all hold specialist plastic surgery qualifications and have extensive experience in cosmetic, plastic and reconstructive surgery.  Every patient on the unit benefits from their specialist skills and knowledge.

Stem cell transplant unit
The stem cell unit is an eight-bed purpose-built transplant facility featuring HEPA filtration and positive pressure ventilation.  This enables treatment of patients with haematological malignancies or other serious blood disorders, who require special facilities because of their compromised immune systems.
The unit provides the latest developments in chemotherapy, immunotherapy and stem cell transplant procedures.  Through  close association with the Anthony Nolan Trust, it is a major stem cell collection centre for peripheral blood and bone marrow volunteer donors.  Donations are used in matched unrelated donor transplants in both the UK and overseas.
There is a team of five haemato-oncologists and haematologists who also have special interests in all aspects of haematology, including anaemia, coagulation and thrombotic disorders.  All nursing staff have appropriate specialist certification in the haematology field.
The unit is supported by the stem cell laboratory, with facilities for flow cytometry and cryopreservation.  A liquid nitrogen facility is used for the long-term storage of patients' stem cells.
Haematology and oncology outpatients
The outpatient department consists of 12 treatment areas, and aims to provide the highest standards of nursing care to patients receiving chemotherapy, apheresis and other related treatments.
London Clinic oncology
Nurses, doctors and healthcare assistants work in conjunction with a dietician, physiotherapists, pharmacists, complementary therapist, counselor and clinical nurse specialists.  There is a dedicated cancer fatigue therapy programme and the Centre supports the continued care of patients after discharge.
Chemotherapy involves the use of one drug, or a combination of drugs to destroy cancer cells.  The Centre provides a  comprehensive chemotherapy service in a comfortable and relaxed environment and ensures that progressive treatment options are available.
